Ear Wax Removal
Ear syringing (also called ear irrigation) is an effective method of removing excess ear wax that can cause problems such as hearing loss.
This procedure involves gently flushing warm water into the ear canal to loosen and wash out the wax. Many people notice an improvement in their hearing straight afterwards. Please note that this service uses syringing, not microsuction.

How it works
A trained member of our team checks your ears, then uses a syringe or ear irrigator to gently flush warm water into the ear canal and wash out the softened wax.
Before your appointment
To help soften the wax, we recommend using olive oil or sodium bicarbonate ear drops before your appointment.
Benefits
Ear syringing is a quick, well-established way to remove ear wax. You can usually go home straight afterwards, and many people notice an improvement in their hearing straight away.
Is ear syringing right for me?
Ear syringing isn’t suitable for everyone. We can’t syringe your ears if you have, or have had, a perforated eardrum, a history of ear discharge, or ear surgery, or if you currently have an ear infection or ear pain. Our team will check your ears and your history first. If syringing isn’t suitable, we’ll talk through other options with you.
Aftercare
Gently dry the outside of your ear with a clean towel and avoid putting anything in your ear, such as cotton buds. You can take over-the-counter pain relievers if you experience any discomfort. If you develop severe pain, discharge, dizziness that doesn’t settle, or your hearing gets worse, contact us or your GP.
Side effects
Possible side effects include dizziness, discomfort or pain, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), infection and, rarely, damage to the eardrum or ear canal.
